Upon entrance into Saffron Foods, we really did not know what to expect. We found them on the Halal Foodie recommended list of places to go for Iftar. As we live downtown, we were about half hour early. Did not see any signs of the buffet Iftar. We asked and were told that the buffet would be laid out shortly.

The ambience  in the restaurant was very homely and peaceful. There was one other table waiting for Iftar too. We waited eagerly to see what it would be like.

Soon enough, before we knew it, the trays came out – all in time for Iftar. One by one, we saw the trays coming out, from Dahi Badis, to Samosas, Dates and fresh fruits. Bottles of mineral water and servings of Rooh Afza were also served on the side. Before we knew it, it was time for Iftar.

The amazing part of it all is that the setting up of the Iftar Buffet was done by less than 4 staff members (on the floor), including the receiving of customers towards Iftar time. They certainly did very well. As the Buffet was being set up, customers also started streaming in.

And Voila! There we had – a really beautiful, very much home styled Iftar, which left us feeling so at home. For once, I did not miss home cooked food as much! After having the finger foods, we thought that was it, as the appetizers served were certainly very filling, it was time for Namaz. There is a prayer room located in the basement section of the restaurant. Just after Namaz, out came the dinner! Zeera Rice, Naan bread, Chicken 65, Chicken curry (can’t remember what it’s called, maybe Lagan Chicken) and Kheer. Oh boy! It was sooooo delicious, and definitely the best Indian food I’ve ever had in Toronto & Mississauga. Eveything served from the appertizers to the mains tasted very much home-cooked.

Best Kheer I've ever had in the world! Not too gooey, just perfect!

The Kheer was just perfect. We have tried numerous Indian food on our travels around the world – this is definitely the best, not filled with overpowering fragrance, not filled with too much rice, not gooey, just perfect!

As we did not realize we were going to have a scrumptious dinner served alongside as part of the Iftar buffet Dinner, we actually ordered a serve of Chicken Briyani, which we took away with us afterwards. We had the yummy Chicken Briyani for Suhoor and it was perfect!

I would highly recommend Saffron Foods if you are looking for a simple, relaxed place for Iftar. The owner (I’m assuming) & staff member were constantly smiling as they dealt with the customers who streamed in towards the last minute just before Iftar. That, in itself, just gave a peaceful, relaxed environment for Iftar. May these kind souls be rewarded for all the good things they did at last night’s Iftar. I hope the female staff member had something proper to eat for her Iftar as she was just so busy making sure everyone was okay and had their food.

If you’re after that homely, simple, delicious, scrumptious Iftar Buffet Style Dinner, I would highly recommend Saffron Foods – Hyderabadi Food at its best in Mississauga! Saffron Foods is located at: 1710 Lakeshore Boulevard, Mississauga, Ontario. Phone: (905) 822-2222. www.saffronfoods.ca
