kn9The last time I went to Koh Nangkam, they were still at their old location, many years back, but as the food was so delicious, I could still somewhat recall the authenticity in the taste of the food. Over the years, I had been wanting to go back but it just never happened until last New Year’s Eve. With its new location at 6 Jalan Kledek, Koh Nangkam Southern Thai Cuisine has been beautifully revamped indeed!

Despite a grumpy waitress, everything else was beautiful and the food was definitely authentic Thai Cuisine at its best! I guess Koh Nangkam is the place to go for really good quality, authentic Thai food and not so much of the service. We had 8 dishes shared amongst the four of us and we left with happy, full tummies, almost bursting to the seams, all ready to usher 2015! 🙂

One thing I love about Thai Cuisine is the refreshing taste of the dishes (at least my favourite Thai dishes), particularly, the Salads and Soups, which made up the bulk of the dishes we ordered on our last visit to Koh Nangkam.

We had the clear Tom Yam soup, which was very refreshing – one of the best TomYams I have ever had (apart from my Maa-ji’s home-cooked Tomyam of course!) Filled with real seafood and NOT overloaded with just fish balls and ‘treated-glass prawns’ (like what majority Thai places use, from my experience), the Tom Yam is at the ‘just right’ level of spicy-ness and tangy-ness with that refreshing zest…. oh yummmm!

I had the Mee Ladna which was perfectly done, not too soggy or overdone, noodles were just right. Veggies were still fresh and crispy, not undercooked and not over done. Seafood was definitely very fresh and a generous amount of seafood was used. In fact, the Mee Ladna is one of my personal favourites!

J had his favourite dish – the Pineapple Fried Rice. Again, this was so deliciously cooked! The Pineapple Fried Rice, really has the original taste of Pineapple Fried Rice and not over-powered with Fish Sauce and other artificial flavours. A generous amount of pineapple and seafood were used.

We had the Yum Woon Sen, also known as Glass Noodle Salad – one of Pops’ Favourite dishes since I introduced it to him several months back – very refreshing salad with a burst of flavours and zest, perfect level of spicy-ness. Pops enjoyed it heaps!

The Thai Mango Salad was also a good choice as part of our meal that evening. It went well as an accompaniment to all the other dishes we had. It was very refreshing and the Mangoes may look green but you know whaaaaaattt… the Mangoes were sweet  and the salad was simply delicious.

One dish I cannot go past is my veggies! I love my mixed vegetables because when it is done right,  it can be easily turned into a main dish for me! This mixed veggies dish is also known as Chap Chye. The Chap Chye was very fresh and well done, with no overpowering taste of MSG or salt, just the way I wanted it to be.

One dish J cannot go past is Pandan Chicken. I must say it’s not my favourite dish but I tried some and it really was delicious. Crispy on both the inside and outside, yet not super oily. Even my Maa-ji who doesn’t normally eat the dish, had some and only had good things to say afterwards! 🙂

One dish that I have been craving for and been on a hunt for is this Steamed Fish with Ginger. I must say no other place does it as well as Koh Nangkam does it. I have been half way around the world in search of this, tried the same dish at so many other places and I think I may have just found the perfect one here, at Koh Nangkam! A fusion of flavours, Southeast Asian flavours to be exact, all somewhat infused into a whole fish, oh yummmmmmmm! Without a doubt, very authentic flavours indeed. With Koh Nangkam, one does not have to be in Thailand to experience the authentic Thai flavours.

I just cannot seem to stress enough on the authenticity of the Thai Cuisine at Koh Nangkam – one thing for sure, at Koh Nangkam, Southern Thai Cuisine is definitely at its best!
