One of the best things about Hatten Hotel Melaka, is its super central location, with a clever connection to the rest of the malls in the area. Be it rain or shine, the shopping doesn’t end! It’s connection to the new Dataran Pahlawan Mall makes it a very strategic place to be staying at. Of course, its close proximity to the famous Mahkota Parade also adds on to it being the accommodation of choice.
The rooms are quite comfortable and spacious with a separate living area and an extra television in the living area which allows much freedom in enjoying television shows. The view from the ocean view rooms is magnificent and very relaxing. It was pure bliss waking up each morning to such a lovely, calming view.
The breakfast spread was amazing and delicious. It was a true International Breakfast Buffet indeed! From local Malaysian favourites like Nasi Lemak, Congee, Mee Siam, Paratha, Fried Noodles to Western Breakfast of Omelette, a variety of cold meats, cheese and salads. Of course, not forgetting, the sweets like pastries, cakes, cereal and also fruit. Do look out for their fresh Soy Milk, which is just soooooo good!
One thing that Hatten Hotel needs to work on would be customer service. As stated on their website, check-in starts at anytime after 3pm. Upon arrival at slightly after 4pm, we were greeted by a staff member who said only one room out of the two rooms booked was available until slightly later. Although we were tired and somehow wished both rooms were ready upon check in, we made do with one room first. At check-in, we also requested a late check out for both rooms and the staff member confirmed the late check-out and assured us that everything was settled.
The night before we left, I decided to double check on the status of the late check out. To my disappointment, the staff member on duty said nothing was confirmed – no late check outs for any of the rooms, simply nothing! And when I asked if there was anything that can be done, the staff member seemed to be rather clueless and said nothing could be done. How disappointing! Only When I probed further, I was being put through from one person to another (about 3 pass-ons) before they could finally give a late check out for ONLY ONE of the rooms. This affected our plans for the next morning as we had to move rooms, change appointments times, etc.
Yet another instance of poor customer service was at breakfast when we requested for a change of tables – Yes, the restaurant was busy with the breakfast crowd. My Pops asked politely if we could have a change of tables so we can be closer to another table (of family members). Instead of responding in a polite manner, he was being told off by one of the waitresses who said firmly, “No! You sit here!”. Only thing that came to my mind was, “Ermmmm….we aren’t little school kids, are we?” Definitely not the right way to respond to a polite request from an old man, who is on holiday.
Overall, a reasonably good hotel, but I would give Hatten hotel 3.5 / 5 stars, instead of the 4 star hotel they are supposed to be, only because the service can be stepped up on a notch. I would say Hatten Hotel Melaka would be the hotel of choice, mainly due to its location.
